Reiko Hino (火野 麗子, Hino Reiko) is Rizuki Kinomoto's best friend and a childhood friend of Taiga Kagami. She is the first year high school student at Seika Girls' Academy who works at Kanda Shrine as miko.
Appearance[]
Reiko is a teenage girl with lower-back length dark brown hair with v-bangs in the front. Her side bangs almost reach her chin. She keeps her hair neat with her red hairband. She has reddish brown eyes and fair skin. Her body is tall and slender, curvaceous figure with large breasts. She is also considered "fragile" since she can get sick easily.
She is always seen in her school uniform, that is a black bolero jacket and a black overall sleeveless dress with white sleeves and collar under it and a red bow under her collar. Her belt on her waist is also black. She wears grey stocking and black Mary Jane shoes.
When she works as a miko, she wears miko robes with white robe and red hakama. Her hair is tied up into a ponytail with red ribbon.
Personality[]
Reiko is a calm, elegant girl who speaks with polite and ladylike manner. She refers herself as watashi and has a habit ending her sentences with wa. She is described as an ideal Japanese woman: beautiful, graceful, intelligent and reserved. Because of this, she is popular with boys. She is also a serious, mature and sensible person which thinks before acts. She looks calm and reserved, but she is determined and strong at heart. She is passionate of what she wants to reach her goal.
However, Reiko is afraid of socialize with boys cause of her traumatic experience with them. She never talk with her opposite gender, except Kagami who is her childhood friend. When boys approached her, she becomes cold and tries to ignore them. But in deep down she becomes shy and nervous towards them. She even hides behind someone who is close with her to avoid them if she has no choice. If she can't handle her fear much longer, she will gets unconscious.
Despite of her popular towards boys, Reiko is quite naive and innocent about boys and romance. She doesn't thinking much about them because she always busies herself with school and her work as a miko. Even thought it is hinted that she has romantic feelings towards Kagami, however she still sees him as a friend.
Althought Reiko has beautiful looks and curvaceous figure, she feels indifferent of them. She even feels uncomfortable when somebody talk about her beauty. In the hot spring scene, she says to Rizuki and Riko that she prefers smaller pair so she can wear a kimono properly.
Being trained as a miko and traditional Japanese girl by her grandmother, Reiko is a strict, discipline and hardworking person who likes to spend her time doing her part-time job as a miko. She can be critical and sharp tongued when someone can't do anything properly or act something stupid. Despite of this, she is kind, gentle and caring towards her close friends like Rizuki and Kagami. She is also respectful towards others which she recognizes, in particular like Kuroko who is Kagami's "Shadow" and his team, Seirin.
Despite her calm and elegant demeanor, she can be an intimidating person when she gets angry. She even gets jealous easily, it is shown that Reiko slaps Kagami when she sees him get kissed by Alexandra Garcia. She is also harsh, judgemental and sarcastic. She initially dislikes Alex because of her weird attitude, but she later respects her after she finds out Alex's background story as Kagami's basketball teacher.
Reiko is anti-social and has a trouble with trusting people. She even has been rumored in her school that she is arrogant and distant because of her beauty and intelligence. However, she isn't good at making friends only caused by her being ignored since childhood.

Rizuki Kinomoto[]
Reiko and Rizuki are best friends since junior high. They attended to same school in Seika Girls' Academy. They didn't meet each other until they were in the same class in second year. However, because of her anti-social and introverted personality, she hardly befriended Rizuki. However, when Reiko helped Rizuki studying Math because one of her school teachers' offer, she thought that Rizuki isn't same like the others. She also thought that Rizuki is a kind of gullible, yet gentle person. Despite of this, Reiko trusted Rizuki to become her friend.
After that, Reiko and Rizuki were getting closer than before until they graduated. She addressed her by calling her first name while Rizuki called her "Reiko-chan". Even thought Rizuki attends in Seirin High, Reiko still contacts with her. She even trusts Rizuki to take care of Kagami when she finds out that Rizuki becomes Seirin boys' basketball manager.
Taiga Kagami[]
Reiko and Kagami are childhood friends since kindergarten. It is shown that they were close to each other as kids and they addressed their first names with suffix -chan. Kagami even protected Reiko from the boys who picked on her when they were elementary school. However, in third grade, Kagami moved to America with his father and attended school there. Making him separated from Reiko and lost contact with her. It made Reiko felt sad about this because she doesn't want to lose a friend like Kagami.
Reiko finally meets Kagami again six years later when Kagami gives back her student card. After their reunion, Kagami shows his basketball skill to Reiko, making her gets amazed. When Reiko finds out Kagami's decision to become number one in Japan, she decides to support him and always watches his match.
Reiko still calls Kagami "Taiga-chan", this time in private only because she doesn't want anybody (especially boys who are infatuated with her) know about her relationship with Kagami. She worries that someone will spread the rumor about them. Same does as Kagami, he finds it embarassing when he calls Reiko with suffix -chan in front of the others. So, they decide to address their first names instead.

- Reiko's name might be a reference to a character from Sailor Moon: Rei Hino. She also has some similarities with Rei. Both are teenage schoolgirls who works as a miko, has same kanji surnames and long-haired. But unlike Rei, Reiko becomes a miko for helping her grandmother to take care of her shrine only, has a fear towards boys and doesn't thinking much about boys and romance. She has a calm and reserved personality similar like Rei (except the original anime which Rei has fiery and short-tempered personality), but she is much more shyer. Reiko's hair as a miko is ponytail instead of let down.
